Side Effect Slides Onto Steam Greenlight
Side Effect, a first person horror game currently in development has landed on Steam Greenlight. It will feature an intelligent system in which reactions to the game will be tracked and stored to a database to better tailor the experience to the player. That’s only one of the many ways the developers have crafted for the game to uniquely scare players.
Side Effect is a first person horror game with a focus on player choice impacting the gameplay every step of the way. Not just in obvious ways like deciding to save someone, every action, every statistic will factor into how the gameplay moves forward. Are you in a panic? Do you still have some sanity left? Enough to thread a needle in under five seconds? Or will you not have enough sanity left to do anything but run for the door trampling anyone in your path? Many different activites await you based on your physical and mental condition at any given time.
In Side Effect you’ll truly connect with the game and feel like the portagonist. That’s you living out this nightmare. You’ll make the decisions that shape the story and enviornment and combined with our tracking system every playthrough can be unique! Use your wits to survive mind-breaking scenarios and you may even live to see the end of this dark tale. To create this simulator and be able to call it like that we developed a system that registers all the movements of the characters in any given situation. For example when the protagonist sees something that scares you or startles you. It’s very possible that the player reacts involunatrily by pushing the wrong buttons, moving the mouse abruptly, breathing heavily or even screaming.
All of that information is processed and injected into your avatar in game. That results in your character being able to have a heart attack, hyperventilate or even fall to the floor hitting his head, etc.. All of this can be avoided trough different dynamics. And obviously while you advance your character will be affected in a physical and mental way. This will change the experience because you can see different things depending on your state, maybe you are so nervous that you can’t use a vital tool or maybe you’re so scared and out of your mind that you’ll view friendly characters as horrific monsters and kill them, furthering your insanity.
